At Structum, we offer a comprehensive range of services across the residential sector of the construction industry. Established in 2009, we have since maintained our stellar reputation of quality and efficiency throughout the entire building process.

We work in close collaboration with our in-house contractors, architects, project managers and engineers.

This allows us to offer a wider range of services from private residential projects to much larger corporate developments. We act as the main contractor on a vast array of projects, co-ordinating all stages from initial design through to project completion.

At Structum we are able to provide a comprehensive service tailored to the needs of each project, as well as to the needs of our clients. We aim to ensure that each project is delivered to the highest specification standards, within the agreed budget and timeframes.

Notting Hill Garden Extension

A sophisticated rear extension transforms a charming two-bedroom property into a contemporary family home.

This beautifully proportioned two-bedroom property in one of Notting Hill's most desirable streets presented an opportunity to create additional living space whilst enhancing the connection between interior and garden. Our clients, a young professional couple, sought to maximise their ground floor footprint and create a light-filled kitchen and dining area perfect for entertaining.

Working closely with architects specialising in conservation area developments, we designed a contemporary glass and steel extension that complements the Victorian property's original character. The 450 square foot addition features floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, integrated underfloor heating, and bespoke joinery throughout. Structural calculations and steel beam installation were executed with precision to create an open-plan space that flows seamlessly from the traditional front reception rooms.

Our clients, a young couple planning to start a family, required a practical solution that would add a second bathroom without compromising the cottage's period character or sacrificing living space.

Working with conservation-focused architects, we designed a modest single-storey rear extension creating 120 square feet of additional space. This allowed us to install a fully equipped second bathroom on the ground floor whilst simultaneously reconfiguring the first floor to create an en-suite shower room for the master bedroom. The design carefully respected the cottage's Victorian proportions and materiality, using traditional brickwork externally and period-appropriate fixtures and fittings internally.

The ten-month project required careful navigation of planning restrictions in this residential area. Our expertise in local authority liaison secured approval, and our craftsmen executed the work with minimal disruption to the neighbouring properties. Our clients, homeowners with a substantial property and extensive grounds, required flexible accommodation that could serve multiple purposes: a home office, guest suite, or potential rental income opportunity, all whilst maintaining their main house's privacy.

Working closely with planning consultants and architects specialising in permitted development, we designed a contemporary 550 square foot structure that maximised the permitted development allowances whilst creating a practical and stylish living space. The single-storey build features an open-plan kitchen and living area with bi-fold doors opening onto a private terrace, a generously proportioned bedroom with built-in storage, and a luxurious wet room-style bathroom with underfloor heating throughout.

The construction utilised a timber frame system with brick exterior cladding to complement the main house, high-performance insulation exceeding building regulations, and triple-glazed windows for energy efficiency. All services—electricity, water, and drainage—were carefully connected from the main property whilst maintaining independence. The eleven-month build programme included comprehensive landscaping to integrate the annexe seamlessly into the established garden setting.
